ToggleMay might be the best month to visit Brown County all year. The weather is warm without being humid, the events calendar is packed, patios and outdoor venues are back open, and the summer crowds haven’t arrived yet – which means you get everything good about summer in Brown County without fighting traffic on Van Buren Street or booking lodging six months out.
I could probably argue any month is the best month here (I’m biased, I live here), but May genuinely hits a sweet spot you don’t get in June, July, or October. It’s the weekend-getaway window before Brown County’s busy season really ramps up.
You can search for specific dates or events here, use the table of contents or links below to jump straight to the week you’re interested in, or keep scrolling to check out everything going on in Brown County this month.

- Americana Bean Jamboree Festival — Celebrate Memorial Day with a full weekend of live Americana music and camping at Bill Monroe’s Music Park, the birthplace of bluegrass. (May 22-25)

**NOTE** I do my best to keep this list accurate–and I’ve linked everything I can to help you find the details you need–but it’s always a good idea to double-check event pages or Facebook listings in case plans change.
And if you notice anything I’ve missed, feel free to let me know so I can add it!

Wrap-Up: May Events in Nashville, IN & Brown County
May is when Brown County fully wakes up. Outdoor venues are open, the farmers market is back for the season, patios are in full swing, and the long Memorial Day weekend caps off a month that’s already running at full speed. Whether you’re coming for a big-name show, a morel sale, a trail race, or just a patio afternoon with live music, there’s no shortage of reasons to be here.
One heads-up if you’re planning a trip – IU Bloomington’s spring commencement is Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9, and the overflow from graduation weekend always spills into Brown County. Lodging books up early, traffic on SR 46 between Bloomington and Nashville gets heavier than usual, and restaurants tend to be busier.
Mother’s Day falls on that same weekend, and Memorial Day weekend at the end of the month is similarly packed. If you have specific dates in mind for any of these, book sooner rather than later.
For the most up-to-date info on anything happening locally, the best places to check are specific event or business Facebook pages, or community groups like All Things Brown County.
Need more spring ideas? Don’t miss my full post on more things to do in Brown County during May (coming soon)!
