Planning a wedding, retreat, family reunion, or big group trip to Brown County and wondering how you’re going to feed everyone?

This post covers the local restaurants, caterers, chefs, and dessert makers that can help, whether you’re feeding a dozen people or a hundred. I’ll also point out which ones offer carryout trays, full-service catering, prepared meals, or custom desserts so you can mix and match based on your vibe, budget, and how much work you’re trying to avoid.

Because let’s be honest: feeding a group might sound fun in theory, but doing all the cooking, coordinating, and clean-up yourself? Not so much.

We’ve lived in Brown County since 2016 and have hosted many events of our own (and even more for guests at the Barn Burner) over the years. This is a practical list based on what catering options I’ve seen people use and enjoy, not just what shows up in a random Google or Facebook search.

Local Catering Services & Restaurants That Cater

When you’re feeding a group in Brown County, you’ve got more options than just hiring a traditional caterer. Many local restaurants offer large trays or custom menus for pickup or delivery, and there are a handful of full-service caterers who can handle everything from setup to clean-up.

These are the first names that come up anytime someone asks for catering recommendations. I’ve noted which ones I’ve personally used and which are consistently recommended in local groups or by other event hosts.

Bonafide Bites

If you ask about catering in Brown County, Sam & Josh of Bonafide Bites are the names you’ll hear from nearly every local. I’ve worked with them many times, and they always go above and beyond. Full-service, flexible, and worth booking early. They fill up fast.

Ferguson House

I’ve used the Ferguson House for catering for several events and have always been happy. They have great food and service. You can also rent the restaurant for private gatherings.

Sugar Creek BBQ

We love Sugar Creek BBQ! If you place an order in advance, they can usually accommodate larger carry-out orders or more traditional catering set-ups. A great option for your next event.

Johnny’s Grub to Go

While I haven’t personally used Johnny’s Grub to Go for catering, I know several friends who have and I always love their food. They’re also often mentioned in community Facebook groups as a great catering option for events or retreats.

Rafters Food & Spirits at Season’s Lodge

Rafters is the same as Johnny’s for me—I haven’t personally used them for catering, but I love their food, and I often see them recommended for catering by other locals.

Bespoke Events & Experiences

Bespoke Events is based out of Columbus, but worth the drive (or they can come to you). Catie and Lindy are a mother-daughter duo that offer everything from catering to guided wine tastings. Perfect if you’re planning something elevated but still personal.

Donuts & Doodles Catering & Meal Delivery

I’ve heard great things from other retreat hosts about Donuts & Doodles Catering. Flexible offerings for prepared meals or drop-off catering.

The Nashville House

The Nashville House is owned by the same folks as Ferguson House. I haven’t used them for catering specifically, but they’re a longtime local favorite, especially for more traditional options.

Other Local Catering Favorites

These are the names that always pop up when someone asks for catering suggestions on community Facebook pages. I haven’t used them myself, but they come up often enough to be worth checking out:

Restaurants Offering Large Trays or Pick-Up Catering

These restaurants don’t offer full-service catering, but they’ll do big trays for pickup or sometimes delivery. I’ve used most of these myself when feeding retreat groups or hosting friends and family.

Brozinni Pizzeria

Brozinni Pizzeria can provide larger trays of its regular menu favorites, including pasta, salads, breadsticks, and more. A super easy group option.

Not Just Gyros

Not Just Gyros is a good local takeout option with big portions. No-frills but very tasty and, if you like Mediterranean flavors, it’s a great option for your next event.

Casa del Sol

Casa del Sol is the local Mexican restaurant in town and a great option if you’re craving a taco bar set-up at your next event.

Nashville BP

Yes, I’m talking about the Nashville BP gas station. Turns out they do great breakfast sandwiches, plus hot meals and sides for groups, and it’s shockingly delicious. You can go in anytime they’re open to buy food for carry out, but you’ll want to place large group orders in advance.

Subway

There’s probably no need to explain Subway; you know what to expect. It’s predictable, easy, and good for hikes, picnics, or low-key group lunches.

Brown County IGA (Hot Deli Counter)

Don’t overlook the hot deli counter at the Brown County IGA. You can order ahead for classic sides, meats, and sheet cakes.

Gnaw Mart

The Gnaw Mart is another convenience option like the Nashville BP, but you can place bulk orders for hot sandwiches and sides in advance.

Big Woods Pizza

Big Woods Pizza is mostly known for dine-in, but they’ll work with you if you need to place a larger order for a group.

Food Trucks for Private Events

Food trucks are a fun, flexible option for weddings, rehearsal dinners, retreats, or casual receptions, especially if you’re hosting outdoors or want something a little more laid-back. They also tend to be easier for venues without kitchens or on-site catering.

That said, Brown County has pretty strict health department rules, so you won’t find food trucks parked around town on a regular basis. Most of those who serve local events are based here or willing to travel from nearby cities.

Here are a few I’ve seen at events or tried myself:

  • The Tasty Plate – 100% plant-based and always a hit. Great if you’re looking for fresh, creative vegan food.
  • Wicked Chops – A favorite at local festivals and events and the food I’ve had has always been tasty.
  • Kona Ice – Fun for family reunions or summer events. Shaved ice and good vibes.
  • Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee – Great for morning events, wedding brunches, or welcome night treats.
  • Malone Made Charcuterie – Not a full food truck, but she does have a mobile cart for on-site grazing tables or charcuterie setups.
  • Adventurer’s Pit Stop BBQ – A solid, casual local option if you want something hearty and crowd-pleasing.

If you’re planning a bigger event and want more options, don’t hesitate to look outside of Brown County. Ask in local Facebook groups or reach out directly to trucks from Columbus, Bloomington, or Indy if you have something specific in mind.

Charcuterie Boards & Grazing Tables

If you’re planning a welcome night, cocktail hour, or retreat gathering, charcuterie and grazing boards are a smart and crowd-pleasing option. They look beautiful, travel well, and work for events where people are coming and going instead of sitting down for a full meal.

Some vendors offer simple trays you can pick up, while others will come set up an entire table spread on-site.

Here are a few local favorites to check out:

  • Blooming Boards Charcuterie – Offers beautiful boards and grazing tables that look as good as they taste.
  • Gourmet Grazing Boards – Elegant and generous spreads for weddings, showers, and group events.
  • Malone Made Charcuterie – Also offers a mobile cart for live events. Great for retreats, bachelorette weekends, or cocktail hours where you want something interactive.

If you’re booking a full-service caterer, some also offer charcuterie or appetizers as part of their menu. But if you’re coordinating this piece separately, these vendors are a good place to start.

Restaurants That Work Well for Large Groups

If you’re not looking for traditional catering, but still need to feed a group, several restaurants in and around Nashville are surprisingly group-friendly — whether you want to dine in or place a big carryout order.

Some take reservations, others have private rooms you can rent, and a few are flexible enough to handle larger walk-in groups if you time it right.

Good for Reservations & Large Group Dining

These spots handle big tables without too much hassle. They’re my go-tos when we have extended family in town or host small retreats.

  • Brown County Inn – One of the most reliable options in town. Great food, a kid-friendly patio with a playground and mini-golf, and large dining rooms that can easily fit a crowd.
  • Brozinni Pizzeria – Solid pizza, pasta, salads, and breadsticks. They’ve always been helpful for group orders and have handled dine-in groups well.
  • Rafters Food & Spirits at Season’s Lodge – Great for traditional American food, and they’ve got plenty of space indoors.
  • Casa del Sol – If your group likes Mexican food, they’re a solid option. Service is usually quick, and the space is large enough to manage bigger tables.
  • 19th Hole Sports Bar – Casual, spacious, and a good pick for less formal groups.

Private Rooms for Better Group Service

In my experience, if you’re dining with a large group and interested in any of these restaurants, then I’d strongly consider booking a private room. It will make a huge difference in terms of the overall speed of service and your group’s enjoyment.

  • Little Gem at Abe Martin Lodge – You can reserve tables in the main dining room, but for groups, I strongly recommend asking about their private spaces. The dining room gets busy, and service isn’t always fast.
  • Hard Truth Hills – The setting is beautiful and perfect for celebratory dinners or retreats, but it’s not ideal for casual walk-ins with a large group. Reach out in advance to coordinate.
  • Artist Colony Inn – A longtime local favorite with a historic vibe. They do take reservations, but if you’re with a larger group, booking a dedicated room is a safer bet.
  • Story Inn – Iconic and charming, but the service flow isn’t designed for big groups unless you coordinate directly with the staff ahead of time.
  • Nashville House – Classic comfort food with a lot of local history. They’ve got space, but group dining works best with a plan in place.
  • Big Woods Pizza – It’s popular for a reason. Definitely contact them in advance if you’ve got a large group — especially on weekends — or you’ll be waiting a while or eating in shifts.

Even if these restaurants technically take reservations, I’ve found the private rooms are the way to go for groups of 10+. Service tends to be more consistent, and you’re less likely to get stuck waiting or split across multiple tables.

Lucky for You, There are Plenty of Catering Options in Brown County

The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to food for a group, but that can be a good thing. Whether you want full-service catering, trays from your favorite restaurant, a plant-based food truck, or a pile of pizza boxes, you’ll find flexible local options that work.

Some venues (like hotels or traditional wedding venues) may have preferred vendor lists, while others — including our own event space at the Brown County Barn Burner — let you bring in whatever setup works best for your group.
