Need Brown County date ideas? I’ve got you covered…
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and whether you love it, hate it, or just see it as another day on the calendar, it’s always a good excuse to plan some quality time with your favorite person.
Personally, I don’t get hung up on specific dates for celebrations, but I’m a big believer in making time to connect with your partner whenever it works for you.
So consider this your encouragement to get something on the calendar! And if you need some inspiration, here are a few of my favorite date ideas in Brown County—perfect for Valentine’s Day or any time of the year:
- Go for a hike. Nothing sparks connection and low pressure conversation quite like a walk through nature. Afterward, grab a casual drink or meal—Moontown Brewery or the Brown County Inn are both great spots to unwind after an adventure.
- Create something together. Our Little World Studio has fun workshops for everyone (and a few special ones for couples) if you want to leave with something handmade to remember your day. Or sign up for a class together at Second Story Studio.
- Explore something new. From the heron rookery on the Salt Creek, to Browning Mountain and Indiana’s Stonehenge, to Patton Cave, Brown County is full of tucked-away gems. Pack snacks, plenty of water, and go find an adventure together!
- Dinner and a show at the Story Inn. The monthly Comedy Show at the Story Inn is always a great time in a totally unique place (and the next one is February 22!). Make it special and grab dinner beforehand in the restaurant or tavern, and maybe stay overnight in one of their unique rooms.
- Savor a tour or tasting. Hard Truth Hills has incredible cocktails and interesting distillery tours, or make a day of visiting all the local wineries and tasting rooms. Want something unique? Pick a food category (like fudge or ice cream) and participate in your own taste-test challenge to find your favorite.

Enjoy your week and don’t forget to treat yourself (and your person) to something special.
And if you’ll be spending Valentine’s Day in Brown County, I’d love to know what you have planned! We celebrate most of our milestone moments here, so I’m always looking for new ideas.
Remember, you don’t have to go far to get away—

P.S. Thanks to everyone who guessed last week’s Two Truths and a Lie! The lie? That there are only 3 stoplights in Brown County. There are actually four! You can find them at:
- The County Courthouse (Main/Van Buren Streets)
- CVS/Hoosier Buddy (Van Buren St/SR 46)
- Salt Creek Plaza (near the IGA)
- North entrance of the Brown County State Park (newest one – added in 2024)
That means the truths are that, yep, we’ve lived and worked in Brown County since 2016, and there are over 125 shops in downtown Nashville. (Last time I counted, it was closer to 135, but I didn’t want to split hairs about what technically counts as downtown!) 😊

Find some time to get away together and reconnect, whatever that looks like for you! It could be as simple as an afternoon hike, or a full weekend away at the Brown County Barn Burner.
