Planning a group getaway? Read this first… Some tips + a chance to save 10%!
If you’ve ever planned a family reunion, retreat, or weekend with friends, you’ve probably heard this advice a million times:
“Just pick a date that works for everyone!”
And yes, of course, the date matters. But the real key to a stress-free, memorable group trip?
Choosing the right space.
When my husband Clint and I designed the Brown County Barn Burner, we thought about all the group trips we’ve hosted (and attended) over the years—family reunions, retreats, milestone celebrations—and how the space itself can make or break the experience.
Here’s what we’ve learned:
- Comfort and privacy matter. Separate bedrooms (or even separate units!) are a lifesaver for big groups. Kids can nap, adults can unwind, and everyone gets the downtime they need.
- Shared spaces create the magic. Rooftop patios, firepits, big dining tables—these are the spots where the best memories happen.
- Walkable locations keep everyone happy. Some folks want to shop, others want to hike. Staying close to everything (like downtown Nashville, Indiana) makes life easier for everyone.
Hosting a big group in the wrong space—one that’s too cramped or far from activities—can make the trip feel stressful instead of fun. And don’t even get me started on houses that claim to sleep 15 but only have a dining table that seats 6. 🙄
But when the space is thoughtfully designed for groups (like the Barn Burner), you can actually relax and enjoy your time together.
Whether you’re planning a family reunion, retreat, wedding weekend, or friends’ getaway, the right space means less time worrying about logistics and more time making memories.
