3 wins, 2 updates, and 1 request… Plus the prettiest season in Brown County (and I won’t be convinced otherwise).
I thought it would be fun to do something a little different today—a quick 3-2-1 check-in with some personal updates, a few Brown County happenings, and hopefully a chance to hear something fun from your world too.
So here we go…
3 things going well in my world right now:
- The redbuds are in full bloom and it’s pure magic. I know fall gets all the glory around here, but redbud season is my not-so-secret favorite season in Brown County.
There’s just something about those bright pink-ish purple corridors along the roads that never fails to stop my in my tracks. I was afraid all the rain might knock the blooms off early, but they’re still going strong! - We wrapped up another great maple syrup season a few weeks ago at our house, with just over 3 gallons of finished syrup (it takes 40–60 gallons of sap to make just one gallon of syrup!).
To celebrate, we hosted our second annual pancake party and I swear, no matter your age, nothing beats pancakes for dinner. For the second year in a row, these pecan apple pancakes were the crowd favorite. - Despite the endless rain this spring, I’m still on track with my goal to hike the entire Tecumseh Trail by the end of April. I’ve hiked 21 out of the 42 miles so far, with plans to add a few more this week. It’s been muddy, beautiful, and surprisingly meditative. More on that soon.
2 things I’m excited about in business…
- Last week I launched some new digital maps of Brown County—including a map of all the shops in the entire county and another just for restaurants. Some of these are paid (with more detailed resources coming soon), but the free map of shops in Nashville is still up-to-date and available for anyone to use.
There are so many new spots popping up, like Offbeet Bakery’s new storefront in part of the old Holly Shop building and a new store in the Heritage Mall from the owner of Sweetea’s called The Tent Commandments (think outdoor gear, gifts, and good vibes). - Exactly two months from today I’ll be in the middle of hosting the next REIGNITE Retreat and I can’t wait!
We have such a great group this round — including some amazing instructors like Gail Fairfield, who’ll be teaching alcohol inks. (She also teaches workshops at Second Story Studio if you want to try one before June.)
There are still a few REIGNITE spots left if this kind of creative escape sounds like your thing.
And now it’s your turn…
I’d love to hear one great thing that’s happened in your world this past recently. Big or small, silly or sweet, or as simple as more sunshine after 5:30pm—just hit reply and let me know.
Thanks for being here. And remember, you don’t have to go far to get away,
Kara
P.S. If you’ve been dreaming of a spring getaway, the Barn Burner still has a few open weekends this season. The redbuds are showing off, and the rooftop patio is calling. You can check availability and pricing here.

The redbuds are blooming and the hills are waking up. Brown County in spring might just be my favorite kind of magic.
