The Wilds Wedding Venue

The Wilds blends modern farmhouse design with expansive hilltop views and is one of the most recognizable barn-style wedding venues in the region. The venue sits on a large, private property between Nashville and Bloomington and is often chosen by couples planning a full-scale wedding with a polished, turn-key feel.
It’s a strong fit for couples who want a high level of service, a clear planning framework, and a venue that can comfortably host larger guest counts.
We host a steady stream of wedding parties staying at the Barn Burner for events at The Wilds, especially for full weekend celebrations where guests want a central place to gather outside the ceremony itself.
The Barn at Mount Liberty
Best suited for: Medium-sized weddings, couples who want a traditional barn feel with modern comfort, and those who value having a dedicated on-site space for the wedding party.
The Barn at Mount Liberty is set on more than 100 acres just outside Nashville, and offers a classic Brown County barn setting with thoughtful updates that make it usable year-round. The barn itself is climate-controlled and works well for both indoor ceremonies and receptions, with outdoor space available for expanded guest flow.
One unique feature here is the restored historic log cabin on the property, which is included with the rental and often used by the wedding party for getting ready or overnight stays. Guest lodging beyond that will still need to be arranged off-site.
This is another venue we regularly host groups from at the Barn Burner, and we often serve as a ‘home base’ for the rehearsal dinner, a going-away brunch, or other time together outside the wedding.
The Barn at Timber Ridge
Best suited for: Couples who want an all-in-one experience, built-in vendor coordination, and a barn venue close to town.
The Barn at Timber Ridge is located just a few miles north of Nashville, and this venue takes a more all-inclusive approach to barn weddings. The Brown County Inn is the largest hotel property in Brown County, making it one of the most practical options for weddings with large guest counts. If you’re inviting a lot of out-of-town guests and want a place where many of them can stay together, this is often the most straightforward solution.
It’s especially strong for family-heavy weddings. The on-site pool, playground, restaurant, and access to the Salt Creek Trail make it easy for kids and extended family to stay entertained throughout the weekend. When people aren’t confined to just a ballroom, the energy of the entire event tends to feel more relaxed.
If your priority is capacity, convenience, and keeping guests centralized, this is one of the strongest lodging-and-event combos in the county.
Abe Martin Lodge at the Brown County State Park
Best suited for: Destination weddings, family reunions, large gatherings, and couples who want a quintessential Brown County backdrop.
The Abe Martin Lodge sits inside Brown County State Park and is a unique option for your next event. Guests staying here receive access to the indoor water park, and the surrounding park provides built-in activities like hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
For weddings where guests are traveling in and making a full weekend of it, this setting works beautifully. There’s enough to do that downtime between events doesn’t feel awkward or idle. It also captures that unmistakable Brown County atmosphere, with wooded hills, stone fireplaces, and that classic lodge aesthetic.

The Brown County Barn Burner
Best suited for: Wedding party lodging, rehearsal dinners, small events, retreats, and groups who want to stay together in downtown Nashville.
The Brown County Barn Burner is a great option for your next event, family reunion, or wedding weekend in Brown County (I should know, I’m the owner…).
It was intentionally designed for group stays, with lodging for up to 29 people, but it’s not a large wedding venue. Our event space works best for small to medium gatherings—typically under 40–50 people for meals or events—so it’s not the right fit for larger receptions.
Where it shines is as a home base. Most of the wedding groups we host are getting married elsewhere in the county. They use the Barn Burner for the rehearsal dinner, a welcome gathering, a post-wedding brunch, or simply as a place for the wedding party or immediate family to stay together. We do host smaller weddings on-site occasionally, but most often, we’re the behind-the-scenes gathering space that supports the bigger event happening elsewhere.
We also regularly host family reunions, small business retreats, and workshop-style gatherings. Because it’s walkable to downtown Nashville, groups can enjoy the town without needing to coordinate transportation.
Seasons Lodge & Event Center
Best suited for: Traditional weddings and receptions with on-site catering and overnight accommodations in one location.
The Seasons Lodge offers a ballroom-style event space alongside on-site lodging and food service. It appeals to couples who want a more conventional reception setup with fewer moving parts.
Choosing The Seasons simplifies event coordination because food and beverage options are handled by their in-house restaurant. Guests can stay on the property, attend the reception, and head back to their rooms without needing transportation between venues.
For couples who value structure and simplicity, the Seasons Lodge provides a straightforward, full-service option.
Story Inn
Best suited for: Intimate, destination-style weddings and couples wanting a one-of-a-kind historic setting.
The Story Inn is less of a single venue and more of an entire historic village. Many couples effectively rent out the town’s accommodations for their wedding weekend, creating a fully immersive experience.
The property includes multiple ceremony and reception spaces, and the lodging component allows guests to remain on-site throughout the celebration. It’s quiet, tucked away, and feels entirely separate from the busier parts of Nashville.
For couples who want something distinctly different and are drawn to history and atmosphere, Story Inn offers a setting that doesn’t feel interchangeable with anywhere else.
Salt Creek Golf Retreat
Best suited for: Smaller receptions, rehearsal dinners, and golf-focused gatherings.
The Salt Creek Golf Retreat combines banquet space with on-site lodging and catering. The event space overlooks the golf course and works well for more intimate gatherings rather than large weddings.
Because catering and bar service are built in, it simplifies planning. It’s often a practical fit for rehearsal dinners or smaller wedding receptions where atmosphere and convenience matter more than guest count.
Artists Colony Inn
Best suited for: Small gatherings, rehearsal dinners, and guests who want to stay right in town.
The Artists Colony Inn sits right in the heart of town, making it appealing to guests who want immediate access to shops, restaurants, and galleries. It offers lodging along with event and dining space.
While it’s not designed for large-scale weddings, it can work well for smaller events or rehearsal dinners where walkability is part of the appeal.
Cornerstone Inn
Best suited for: Retreat-style events, small weddings, and groups who want a quieter, more reflective setting.
Cornerstone Inn offers a collection of guest rooms and gathering spaces, including a garden and gazebo area, that are available with overnight packages. It’s often used for church retreats, creative gatherings, and smaller, quieter celebrations.
Because event access is tied to lodging packages, it naturally lends itself to groups who want to stay together and keep the focus on connection rather than scale.
Hotel Nashville

Hotel Nashville offers suites and hotel-style rooms along with a conference space and seasonal outdoor gazebo. It’s a flexible option for modest-sized events paired with overnight accommodations.
Its relatively central location makes it easy for guests to explore the town between scheduled events.
The Yellowwood Inn
Best suited for: Elopements, very small weddings, and romantic overnight stays.
The Yellowwood Inn is known primarily for its couples-focused lodging, including private suites. It does host small ceremonies and wedding-related events, but it’s best suited for intimate gatherings rather than larger receptions.
For couples prioritizing privacy and a romantic setting over guest count, it’s a distinctive option.
Treetop Retreat
Best suited for: Intimate weddings, full-property buyouts, and nature-focused celebrations.
Treetop Retreat offers lodging along with a dedicated ceremony space overlooking panoramic hill views. It’s not hotel-style; instead, it functions more like a boutique property where couples can reserve the space for a full weekend.
Because of its size and layout, it works best for more intimate guest lists where staying together on-site is part of the experience.
Other Venues with Lodging
In addition to hotels and inns, there are a few other venue types in Brown County that include on-site lodging, but function a little differently than a traditional event venue with guest rooms.

Just know that the vibe, amenities, and sleeping arrangements are much more communal than what you’ll find at a traditional hotel or wedding venue.
Unique Historic, Cultural & Entertainment Venues
This category is for couples and groups who want something that doesn’t feel like a traditional wedding venue or hotel ballroom.
These spaces lean into Brown County’s creative, historic, and entertainment roots. Some are better suited for ceremonies or receptions, others for large celebrations, performances, or festival-style gatherings. Most require a bit more hands-on planning, but in return, you get a setting that feels genuinely one-of-a-kind.
T.C. Steele State Historic Site
Best suited for: Garden weddings, art-forward events, intimate receptions, and couples who want a setting that feels deeply tied to place.
The T.C. Steele State Historic Site is one of the most beautiful and distinctive event settings in Brown County. Spread across more than 200 acres between Nashville and Bloomington, the property includes formal gardens, wooded groves, open fields, and several indoor spaces, all tied to the legacy of Indiana artist T.C. Steele.
Couples can host outdoor ceremonies in restored gardens or among towering spruce trees, while indoor options like the historic Large Studio or the Singing Winds Visitor Center offer backup or reception space. The House of the Singing Winds, Steele’s former home, provides a striking photo backdrop and adds to the sense of history throughout the day.
This venue works especially well for events that want the landscape to be part of the experience. It’s formal without feeling stiff, and creative without being overdone. Planning here does require coordination with site guidelines and timing, but the setting is truly unique.
Hard Truth Hills
Best suited for: Large celebrations, corporate events, rehearsal dinners, and couples looking for a high-energy, experiential venue.
Hard Truth Hills is less a single venue and more a full campus. Set on hundreds of wooded acres just outside Nashville, it combines a distillery, restaurant, event spaces, outdoor terraces, and adventure experiences in one place.
For smaller events, groups can reserve indoor or outdoor event spaces for private dinners, tastings, or cocktail-style gatherings. For larger celebrations, it’s possible to rent expansive outdoor areas—or even reserve the entire property—with capacity reaching into the thousands for large-scale events.
This is a strong fit for couples or organizations who want something bold and social rather than traditional. It’s often used for welcome parties, rehearsal dinners, corporate retreats, and milestone celebrations where the experience itself is the centerpiece.
Brown County History Center
Best suited for: Receptions, reunions, community events, and DIY-style gatherings that need space and flexibility.
The Brown County History Center is one of the most practical and flexible event spaces in downtown Nashville. It includes multiple indoor areas, along with outdoor access to the adjacent Pioneer Village, which features historic buildings and open lawn space.
This is a venue I often suggest when someone is interested in renting the Barn Burner Event Space but ends up needing more room or different availability. You can bring in your own food and vendors, and the larger interior spaces work well for receptions, fundraisers, and group events.
One important note: their website has been unreliable, so getting accurate information usually requires calling directly or checking their Facebook page. That extra effort can be worth it, though, especially for groups looking for an in-town location with more capacity and fewer built-in restrictions.
Mike’s Music & Dance Barn
Best suited for: Casual weddings, family events, reunions, and dance-focused celebrations.
Mike’s Music & Dance Barn is a longtime local favorite with a laid-back, casual feel. The space centers around a large dance floor and regularly hosts line dancing, live music, and social dance nights.
For private events, it works well for groups who want room to move and aren’t looking for a formal setup. Inside, you’ll find a big open floor along with pool tables and darts. Outside, there’s additional space including a volleyball net, which makes it especially popular for family gatherings and relaxed receptions.
Brown County Playhouse
Best suited for: Performance-based events, themed celebrations, screenings, or unconventional ceremonies.
The Brown County Playhouse is a historic, 425-seat theater right in downtown Nashville. It’s not a traditional event venue, but it can be rented for private or corporate events that take advantage of the stage, seating, and theatrical setting.
This works best for groups planning an entertainment-driven event: a performance, film screening, presentation, or ceremony that feels more like a show than a banquet. While it doesn’t offer breakout rooms or dining space in the usual sense, the lobby and theater itself create a memorable backdrop for the right kind of event.
Brown County Music Center
Best suited for: Very large gatherings, concerts, galas, and professionally produced events.
The Brown County Music Center is the county’s premier concert and performance venue. With a large theater, expansive lobby, and professional production capabilities, it’s designed for big moments and big audiences.
This is not a traditional wedding or meeting venue, but it can be a great fit for large-scale celebrations, galas, or events that require staging, sound, and lighting. Catering is coordinated through approved vendors, and the venue’s experienced staff supports complex event logistics.
If your event is closer to a production than a party, this is one of the few spaces in Brown County built to handle that scale.
Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground
Best suited for: Festival-style gatherings, large private events, and groups who want space, stages, and on-site camping.
The Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground isn’t a traditional venue in the sense you might be expecting. It’s a large, privately owned campground and festival site best known for hosting major bluegrass events, but it’s also used for large private and semi-public gatherings.
Groups have rented the grounds for festivals, rallies, and multi-day events that take advantage of the stages, open fields, cabins, and extensive camping infrastructure. Lodging options range from cabins and RV hookups to tent camping, creating a very communal, outdoors-first experience.
If you’re envisioning something more like a gathering or festival than a formal event, this property offers space and flexibility that few others can match.
Outdoor Ceremony & Park Spaces
If your vision includes trees, trails, open air, and natural backdrops, Brown County has no shortage of outdoor spaces that work well for ceremonies and casual gatherings.
These venues are best suited for ceremony-only events, laid-back receptions, elopements, or informal group gatherings. They tend to be more affordable than private venues, but they also come with important tradeoffs, like weather considerations, day-use restrictions, and fewer built-in amenities.
Brown County State Park Amphitheater & Shelterhouses
Best suited for: Outdoor ceremonies, casual receptions, reunions, and nature-forward gatherings with flexible expectations.
Brown County State Park offers the widest range of reservable outdoor spaces in the county, from the stone amphitheater behind the Abe Martin Lodge, to the Nature Center Amphitheater, to large stone shelterhouses like the Lower and Upper Shelters. These spaces are frequently used for wedding ceremonies, picnic-style receptions, and post-ceremony gatherings.
What makes the park appealing is the variety. Some shelters feel event-like and central, while others are quieter and more tucked away. The Nature Center Amphitheater, in particular, works well for ceremonies thanks to its built-in seating and scenic views.
That said, these are day-use spaces only, and every guest must pay the park entrance fee. Accessibility, restrooms, and electricity vary widely by location, so choosing the right shelter matters. This is a great option for couples who want scenery over structure and are comfortable planning around the park’s rules and logistics.
Yellowwood State Forest Shelterhouse
Best suited for: Small ceremonies, retreat dinners, reunions, and groups who want a quieter, more rustic setting.
The Yellowwood State Forest Shelterhouse is a historic stone structure overlooking the lake. Built during the WPA era, it’s shaded, peaceful, and surrounded by forest, making it one of the most scenic and understated gathering spots in the county.
This shelter works especially well for smaller events. It doesn’t have the same infrastructure as Brown County State Park, but it also doesn’t have the crowds. There’s no gate fee, reservations are affordable, and the overall atmosphere is much calmer.
I’ve hosted a retreat dinner here myself, and it’s the kind of place where the setting does most of the work. It’s not formal, and it’s not flashy — but for the right group, it’s incredibly memorable.
Deer Run Park Shelterhouse
Best suited for: Local gatherings, reunions, casual celebrations, and family-friendly events close to town.
Deer Run Park is a county-owned park just outside downtown Nashville with a covered shelterhouse, playground, open fields, and modern restrooms (seasonal). The shelter can be reserved, and additional picnic areas are available on a first-come basis.
This park is especially practical if you want an outdoor space without the complexity of state park rules or entrance fees. It’s easy to access, close to town, and works well for informal events like birthday parties, reunions, or low-key wedding gatherings.
It’s not a scenic overlook or destination venue, but for convenience, simplicity, and kid-friendliness, it’s a fantastic option.
Brown County Country Club (BC3)
Best suited for: Outdoor ceremonies, casual receptions, and couples looking for open green space with a country-club feel.
Brown County Country Club (often referred to as BC3) is best known as a premier disc golf destination, but it is also occasionally used for weddings and events. The property includes expansive green space, ponds, and a clubhouse, and it’s located just outside Nashville.
Details about event rentals aren’t clearly outlined on their website, so availability and setup options require direct contact. However, local listings and past photos on their Facebook Page suggest it’s been used for outdoor ceremonies and receptions, particularly for couples wanting space and scenery rather than a fully managed venue.
Outdoor Spaces at Other Venues

Add-on activities like ropes courses, zip lining, canoeing, and swimming make it especially appealing for groups that want facilitated experiences built in. If you want a retreat center that feels organized, staffed, and intentionally designed for groups, Waycross is often the top recommendation.
CYO Camp Rancho Framasa
Best suited for: Leadership retreats, youth groups, team-building retreats, schools, and organizations that want facilitated challenge-based programming.
CYO Camp Rancho Framasa is best known locally for its high- and low-ropes courses, and that’s where it really shines. I’ve spent time here with Leadership Brown County groups, and it’s consistently used for early-stage group bonding and personal growth through shared challenges.
The property spans more than 250 acres and includes meeting spaces, cabins, a dining hall, and a wide range of staff-led activities—from ropes and archery to swimming, canoeing, and arts programming. Guest groups typically bring their own agenda, but many choose to incorporate camp-led activities to enhance the experience.
This is not a luxury retreat environment—it’s experiential, energetic, and purpose-driven. If your group wants to learn about itself by doing things together, this is one is a fantastic option.
Walnut Ridge Retreat Center
Best suited for: Church retreats, youth retreats, spiritual gatherings, and faith-based conferences.
Walnut Ridge Retreat Center is a Christian retreat center focused on hosting group experiences. The property includes lodging, large meeting spaces, dining facilities, and recreational amenities like a pool, game rooms, and outdoor gathering areas.
What stands out most consistently in reviews is how well cared for the property is and how involved the staff tends to be. Groups frequently mention clean facilities, responsive support, and a setting that works well for both structured sessions and informal downtime.
Programming and purpose matter here. This is a retreat center designed for faith-based groups looking for a supportive, values-aligned environment rather than a neutral event venue.
Harvest Hall at eXplore Brown County
Best suited for: Adventure-forward weddings, outdoor ceremonies, weekend celebrations, and couples who want activities built into the experience.
The Harvest Hall at eXplore Brown County sits within a much larger property that includes cabins, campsites, and multiple ceremony locations. It feels less like a hotel and more like a private event campus surrounded by forest.
What makes this venue unique is the ability to turn a wedding into a full weekend experience, with optional on-site lodging, campsites, and adventure activities like zip lining, paintball, hiking, and mountain biking. Lodging varies from cabins to campsites rather than hotel-style rooms, which gives the weekend a more casual, immersive feel.
This venue works especially well for couples who want something nontraditional, interactive, and memorable, and who are comfortable blending celebration with outdoor adventure.
Moneto Camp & Retreat Center
Best suited for: Church retreats, youth camps, service-oriented retreats, and groups that want rustic immersion with activity options.
Camp Moneto sits on roughly 700 acres of wooded hills and valleys and leans more firmly into the traditional camp model. Lodging is cabin-based, meeting spaces are practical and flexible, and activities range from climbing walls and low ropes to swimming, archery, and hiking.
Availability is seasonal, and the experience is intentionally simple. This is the kind of place where days are structured, meals are communal, and the setting encourages focus and connection over comfort.

Lutheran Hills
Best suited for: Small to mid-sized retreats, leadership gatherings, church groups, and organizations looking for year-round lodging options.
Lutheran Hills offers something a little different within the camp category, with smaller, more residential-style lodging alongside traditional retreat facilities. Properties like Bear Creek Village, Shedron Lodge, and Rex House allow groups to stay together in a way that feels more like a shared home than a dorm.
With hiking trails, a lake, and outdoor amenities across a large wooded property, this can be a great fit for adult retreats, planning weekends, or groups that want a quieter, less camp-heavy feel while still having access to nature and meeting space.
Camp Gallahue
Best suited for: Large retreats, outdoor-focused gatherings, and organizations needing substantial acreage.
Camp Gallahue spans more than 800 acres and is operated by Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, but you do not need to be a Girl Scout to rent it. Outside organizations must rent the entire facility, which makes it best suited for larger groups.
Facilities include cabins, lodges, activity areas, and lakes, with a strong emphasis on outdoor programming. This is a true camp environment—expansive, nature-forward, and best for groups that want space to spread out.
Gnaw Bone Camp
Best suited for: Nature-based camps, outdoor education groups, and organizations seeking a deeply rustic, place-based experience.
Gnaw Bone Camp is close to our family’s hearts because my daughters spend part of every summer here, and it represents a very specific kind of Brown County experience. It’s is primitive, intentional, and unforgettable.
The property includes over 1,400 acres of forest, lakes, and backcountry trails. Facilities are minimal, and the focus is squarely on outdoor education, hiking, and immersion in the landscape. It’s not a polished retreat center, but for the right group, it’s incredibly meaningful.
If your goal is connection to nature rather than comfort or convenience, this is one of the most special places in the county.
Hilltop Christian Camp
Best suited for: Churches, schools, nonprofits, and mission-aligned organizations.
Hilltop Christian Camp operates seasonally for outside rentals and offers a wide range of activities, from zip lines and climbing walls to disc golf and paddle boats. Lodging is dorm-style, linens are not provided, and food service options depend on group size.
This is a more DIY retreat experience compared to places like Waycross, but it offers flexibility and scale for groups that are comfortable coordinating their own programming and logistics.
Other Camps to Know About
These are summer camps that I’ve seen mentioned as allowing outside rentals in some capacity, but I wasn’t able to find clear, up-to-date rental details online. If one of these sparks interest, I recommend contacting them directly.
- Camp Palawopec – A small, traditional summer camp with rustic cabins and a strong outdoor focus.
- Happy Hollow Children’s Camp – Occasionally mentioned for off-season rentals, but details require direct inquiry.
Community Centers & Other Event Spaces
Not every gathering needs a traditional venue or a full-service event space. Brown County also has several community-based venues that work well for meetings, showers, reunions, workshops, and casual celebrations, especially if you’re prioritizing affordability, flexibility, or a central location.
Brown County Public Library
Best suited for: Meetings, workshops, educational events, and community gatherings (with specific restrictions).
The Brown County Public Library offers several reservable meeting rooms in the lower level of the building, and one of the biggest perks is that they’re free to use when available. That said, there are important limitations to be aware of.
Use is restricted to meetings that are open to the public, with no selling, soliciting, or private parties allowed. For-profit use is limited to training or informational programming, and events must generally take place during library hours (with some flexibility on weekdays).
If those guidelines align with what you’re planning, this can be a great, budget-friendly option right in downtown Nashville.
Hickory Ridge Community Center
Best suited for: Showers, reunions, birthday parties, small receptions, and casual community celebrations.
Hickory Ridge Community Center is a flexible, family-friendly space that’s frequently used for private events. The daily rental fee is very affordable, and the property includes both indoor and outdoor amenities.
Inside, you’ll find a large meeting room, tables and chairs, and a full kitchen. Outside, there are playgrounds, picnic tables, walking paths, and open green space, which makes this a solid choice for events with kids or multi-generational groups.
This is one of the more relaxed, accessible rental options in the county.
Sycamore Valley Community Center
Best suited for: Small gatherings, birthdays, reunions, and low-key celebrations.
The Sycamore Valley Community Center is located just outside downtown Nashville and adjacent to the 4-H Fairgrounds. It is a smaller venue with a capacity of around 40 people.
The space includes tables, chairs, restrooms, and a small kitchenette, making it best for simple events that don’t require extensive setup or elaborate amenities. Reservations are handled through the Brown County Parks & Recreation Department.
Brown County Fairgrounds & Exhibit Hall
Best suited for: Large-scale events, festivals, markets, shows, and gatherings that need significant space.
If you’re planning something big, the Brown County Fairgrounds offers options that most other venues in the county simply can’t match. The Exhibit Hall can be rented for large indoor events, and in some cases, the entire fairgrounds can be reserved for private use.
There isn’t a central booking website for this venue, so availability and rental details are handled directly through the fairgrounds (contact Josh Stargell at 317-412-0464). This is a good option to explore if your event needs room to grow.
Local Restaurants Available for Private Events
In addition to dedicated event venues, many local restaurants in Brown County offer private dining rooms or full private event options for rehearsal dinners, celebrations, and group meals.
