1. Brown County Winery & Tasting Room
- Winery | WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | LOCATION – 4520 SR 46 E |
- Tasting Room | WEBSITE | LOCATION – 47 E MAIN ST |
The Brown County Winery has been a staple in the community since 1985 and is the only location on this list with both a winery/production location AND a tasting room in the county. The Brown County Winery is renowned for its diverse, quality wine offerings, and caters to a range of tastes with dry, semi-sweet, and dessert wines, all produced in Brown County.
While both locations are welcoming and offer the same wine list and free tastings, there are several differences between your experience at the winery versus the tasting room. At the main winery location in Gnawbone – just a few miles east of downtown Nashville on State Road 46 – visitors can purchase a glass or bottle of wine to enjoy on the outdoor deck, alongside some light snacks (or you’re welcome to bring your own food!). The tasting room in downtown Nashville is a convenient spot for quick tastings and bottle purchases for carry-out.
When I’m with friends, I typically visit the Nashville tasting room due to its convenient location, especially if we’re visiting multiple tasting rooms on the same day. But the main winery is a beautiful location and worth the drive when you have more time or if you want to enjoy your wine on premises. Note that wine is not sold by the glass in the tasting room; you can only try samples and buy bottles for carryout.
- Cost for Tastings: Free for six to eight 1 oz pours
- Characteristic Wine Styles: A mix of dry, semi-sweet, and dessert wines are available. Check out their complete wine list for more info.
- Family-Friendly: Yes, minors must be accompanied by an adult.
- Pet-Friendly: Yes, but only on the outside deck and grounds at the winery location on SR 46 E. Pets are not permitted in either tasting room.
- Outdoor Seating: Yes, you can enjoy their lovely outdoor deck area at the winery location on SR 46 E. There is no seating (indoor or outdoor) at the tasting room in Nashville.
- Food Available: At the winery location on SR 46, some wrapped cheeses are available for purchase, and you are welcome to bring in outside food (but no outside alcohol).
- Live Music: Occasionally, check the Brown County Winery Facebook page for up-to-date events info.
Range 46 Wine Co opened in July 2024 and is a fantastic new addition to the list of wineries in Nashville, Indiana. It joins Brown County Winery on the very short list of wineries that are actually fermenting their wines in Brown County. And while I like all the tasting room-only locations for their own reasons, there’s just something special about a place that’s making everything locally. Don’t you agree?
Range 46 Wine Co is still getting established, but they’re off to a great start. Their new facility (located about 10 minutes east of Nashville on SR 46) is beautiful, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Their wine lineup ranges from sweet to dry and includes some favorite varieties, inventive originals, and wine slushies. They also offer a variety of charcuterie plates (including meat & cheese, fruit & nut, and chocolate & nut assortments) to enjoy with their wines.
It’s still early days for Range 46 Wine Co, so plan your visit now so you can say you’ve been there since the beginning!

The Country Heritage Winery Tasting Room offers an expansive selection of wines from their LaOtto, Indiana winery, including a diverse wine list that ranges from dry to sweet, specialty reserve wines, and hard ciders. The patio and live music every weekend create a lively atmosphere that’s the perfect way to end your day in Nashville.
Due to its proximity, it’s a convenient spot for Barn Burner guests, so I’m always recommending it to people. It definitely has the largest space and most extensive wine list of any of the wineries in town. This venue was formerly known as the Chateau Thomas Winery Tasting Room but was incorporated into Country Heritage Winery in 2019, combining old favorites with new hits.

Made locally in Freetown, Indiana (just south of the Brown County border in Jackson County), Salt Creek wines are all about natural taste, with minimal filtration and 100% fruit—no concentrates.
During my visit in February 2024, the relaxed atmosphere and delicious, well-priced wines were standouts. Their outdoor seating area is perfect for lounging in warmer weather.
