June 2025 Itinerary

SUNDAY, JUNE 8

Arrive at the Brown County Barn Burner between 2–4 PM and settle in. You’ll have time to explore downtown Nashville, relax at the retreat venue, or ease into the weekend with some of the provided DIY art materials.

We’ll officially kick off the retreat with a short walk to Second Story Studio, where the team from Milkman’s Daughter will lead us through a creatively inspired cocktail-making session paired with a charcuterie-style dinner.

Afterward, we’ll ease into creativity with a series of playful, hands-on art activities—quick exercises in doodling, blind contour drawing, expressive mark-making, and more. You’ll also choose your favorite fragrance notes to be used later in the retreat for your own custom-scented candle, created in partnership with Lakehouse Candle Company.

This is a time to experiment, loosen up, and connect with fellow attendees—no pressure, just creative play.

We’ll close the evening with a symbolic “Ashes to Ashes” activity, letting go of creative blocks and making space for the days ahead.

MONDAY, JUNE 9

Start the morning at your own pace—self-serve breakfast will be available in your unit whenever you’re ready. If you’d like, you can join us for an optional yoga or wellness session to gently ease into the day.

We’ll begin our creative exploration with artist Hannah Hadley, diving into the art of marbling on both paper and fabric. You’ll also get the chance to try flower pounding—a satisfying, hands-on process using real blooms to create delicate imprints and natural color transfers.

After lunch, we’ll continue the momentum with a workshop led by artist Gail Fairfield using alcohol inks. This vibrant and fluid medium offers a beautiful way to experiment with color, flow, and self-expression. You’ll try your hand on paper and glass ornaments, with prompts to help guide your creative process.

Later in the afternoon, you’ll have time to revisit any techniques from the day or add finishing touches to your work. We’ll gather again on the rooftop patio to begin the first steps of bookbinding. Under Jessica Robayo‘s guidance, you’ll fold and punch your pages, select your covers, and prepare your intro and outro papers.

Dinner will be provided in your unit. The rest of the evening is yours to relax, create, or connect with others.

TUESDAY, JUNE 10

After a self-serve breakfast in your unit, we’ll start the day with a seasonal floral design workshop led by Kara Hammes. During this session, you’ll create a Dutch-inspired floral arrangement in a vintage vase—another way to experiment with composition and creativity.

Next, we’ll prep our handmade books with Jessica Robayo, trimming and gluing your chosen covers and endpapers so they’re ready for binding. Then, over a laid-back lunch at the Barn Burner, small groups will head across the street to Lakehouse Candle Company to pour their custom-scented candle—made with the fragrance notes you chose Sunday evening.

In the afternoon, we’ll head outdoors to sew our books together and begin using them for reflection and creative exploration. Whether you’re drawn to journaling, sketching, hiking, or simply soaking up the peace of the natural setting, this time is meant to help you reconnect—with yourself, your creativity, and the world around you.

The day closes with a celebratory rooftop tasting dinner prepared by My Private Chef Indy. Ten courses, thoughtfully created and beautifully presented, to honor the creativity you’ve reignited over these past few days.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11

Enjoy a slow morning, breakfast at your own pace, and a final creative reflection session to wrap up the retreat experience.

Check-out is at 11 AM, but feel free to linger, grab a coffee in town, and take your creative energy with you into the days ahead.

*Itinerary is not final. Subject to change per host’s discretion and instructor/provider availability. Additional programming may be offered depending on the final number of attendees. A full itinerary will be provided to participants a few weeks in advance of the retreat.
